Imagine your office is on the beach and you are being paid as a PADI Divemaster or Scuba Instructor, training people to dive in clear tropical waters, introducing them to the wonders of scuba diving on the coral reef. This dream is a reality for graduates of Flying Fish professional Divemaster and Scuba Instructor training.
Scuba diving is one of those rare occupations in which you get paid to do something you love in some of the most beautiful places in the world. It's a lifestyle most people can only dream about - and Flying Fish will help you turn the dream into reality.
Working as a Divemaster means organising the equipment and supervising dives for customers who are already qualified. It's a responsible job and you need good communication skills and the ability to manage people - all taught on a Flying Fish course, naturally. Find dates and locations for Divemaster courses >>
When you qualify as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor your career will start to take off. The worldwide scuba diving industry is developing fast and good instructors are in demand. PADI Dive Instructor Traineeships >>
Where to start
Divemaster is the first rung on the PADI professional ladder. You will assist instructors both in the pool and on open water sessions. With time and experience as a PADI Divemaster, you’ll soon be raring to go for the next level: Open Water Scuba Instructor. As a PADI OWSI you will teach a variety of courses up to Divemaster level and start working towards becoming a Master Scuba Diver Trainer.
Before you start training, prepare a CV/resume with the qualifications you expect to achieve. Apply for jobs advertised on this site and start networking as soon as you begin your course. For instructors there are often more jobs than applicants so there is no excuse not to get hired! CV/resume information from Flying Fish >>
Where can you work? The oceans occupy 7/10 of the world's surface so you have plenty of choice. There are jobs to be had at Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, on remote islands in the Indian Ocean, in the Caribbean or the Red Sea. The world, as they say, is your oyster.
What you'll earn Divemaster work is satisfying and a good way to build experience but it is quite poorly paid in most places: subsistence only. As a scuba instructor you can tell a different story. You will now be making money for your employer and can expect to be paid USD 700 to 2,000 a month, plus tips which can be substantial. Of course with experience and higher qualifications this goes up.
