All the gear you need is available for entry-level courses and recreational diving. In Greece it's all included in price. In Australia there is a charge for equipment rental. If you join a professional course, leading to Divemaster or Scuba Instructor certification, all major items are available to rent in Australia but you should be prepared to buy a few items of your own personal gear.
