The things you need

Flying Fish provides
all major items of equipment for all its watersports programmes, including any safety equipment required. There is a rental charge for dive gear in Australia. We do not provide skis or snowboards in Canada but these are easily rented locally if you don't have your own.

If you are joining a professional course with Flying Fish scroll down to see the items of clothing and  personal  things you need to provide. Everything you need in the UK, Australia or Canada can be bought there, so travel light!  In Greece you may struggle to find specialist sports equipment. For these programmes you should shop in advance.

If you join a short recreational or commercial course your joining instructions will include a list of any clothing and equipment you should bring with you.

We also recommend a short reading list for some courses.

Ski and Snowboard Instructor courses with YES Tours
Essential items:
Thermal ski socks
Good quality waterproof gloves
Warm hat
Anti-fog goggles
Neck warmer/scarf
Thermal underwear (top & bottom)
Turtlenecks or second layer sweater
Third layer vest for those with only a shell jacket
Waterproof pants and jacket (see below for more information)
Snow boots
A well fitted helmet is highly recommended for your safety on the slopes (mandatory for boarders doing CASI Park Level 1)

Your on-snow gear needs to be good quality as winter temperatures in Whistler can
fluctuate from 5°C to -20 °C throughout the season and can at times be very wet. We
suggest a Gortex fabric that is at least 15,000mm waterproof and breathable. Layering
your clothing is the best solution to staying warm. It will allow you to adjust to the
varying degree changes in the weather. All the items suggested above can be purchased
at many ski shops in Whistler. If you feel you need some suggestions, it may be worth
waiting until you arrive and YES Tours will point you in the right direction. Discounts at
many of the shops will be available.

Extra recommended items:
Gym clothes
Warm casual clothes for après and lounging around the house
Warm slippers for accommodation as it is the custom to leave all street shoes at the front door
Towel for swimming/gym
Small first aid kit for your own use
High factor sunscreen
Logbooks and certificates for any ski or snowboard qualifications
An up to date resume if you are planning to work upon completion of the course

Items provided by YES Tours: all linens and bedding items, bath towel

Ski and snowboard gear:
You need appropriate skis or snowboard, poles and boots. If you do not have your own equipment, we recommend you wait until you arrive in Whistler. Instructors will be able to advise you on the best equipment to fit you and your ability. They work with many of the best boot fitters in town to ensure that you are fitted with the correct flex, size, and style of boots. If you are looking at renting your gear, prices range from CAD200-350 per week, depending on the time of year. Some shops offer a rent-to-buy plan. In most cases, it may be cheaper and more cost effective to purchase. Discounts are available.
