At Flying Fish we believe your gap year should be fun as well as educational. You will face a personal challenge during your training course and subsequent work experience - and you'll get the most out of it if you have prepared yourself. Here are our top tips for planning a year out:
- Design your gap year in outline before applying for university. Admissions tutors will be impressed by a thought-out plan.
- What's most important to you - travel or work experience? You can be flexible with travel plans but you must research job opportunities in advance. Chcek out today's gap year jobs at Flying Fish Recruitment >>
- Who do you know who's been there before? Flying Fish can put you in touch with someone just arrived back in the UK if you like.
- Sort out the admin in plenty of time - air tickets, visas, insurance, jabs for some destinations.
- Who is in charge of your affairs while you're away? There will be university forms to fill and letters to answer.
- What have you forgotten? As a Year Out Group member organisation Flying Fish recommends Britain's Foreign Office campaign Know before you go >>
- Allow plenty of time to settle back home on your return after your year out. You'll need time to organise accommodation and everything else for uni - and don't be surprised by a mild case of post-trip blues while you readjust.
