Ideas for a successful gap year

gap yearEvery Flying Fish course has its share of students with the idea of taking a gap year or year out. Universities prefer candidates with some life experience and individuals benefit from a structured break from formal education.

At Flying Fish you gain qualifications that lead to interesting jobs in your gap year and for future vacations. By now you are an experienced yacht skipper or action sports instructor and you can spend your holidays being paid to enjoy your favourite activity.

The best-known reason to take a gap year between school and higher education is to improve your resume/CV with experience overseas. Most school leavers in Britain now consider a year-out to be essential. Many want to travel, with Australia the favourite destination.

Australians and New Zealanders travel to Europe and North America in large numbers to gain overseas experience. Those who qualify with Flying Fish are soon using their skills to work outdoors and see more of Europe.

Major American universities back the idea of a gap year before enrolling. Famously, Harvard's admission tutors have recognised that it's a case of 'time out or burn out'. They officially encourage taking a year out before starting as a Freshman.
