Week five in the life of a trainee windsurf instructor
Our last week has been awesome. We had a really great long Easter weekend. I have been out nearly every night for about a week and the nights have been getting later and hangovers worse! But it is my last week! We went to see a comedy at the Boatshed on Monday night which was really fun.
We were going windsurfing on Tuesday, but somehow as I ran to get into the van I managed to knock myself out on the door frame then fall back onto the pavement, seriously hurting my back. It must have looked like a really funny comedy fall. I can't believe that the worst injury i got whilst on my course was from the fish van. If it had been from a cool swipe out on the water it would have been far better, but no...
The fall meant that I couldn't go windsurfing on Tuesday which I was really gutted about as it was the last week! But we did go and visit a cool windsurf shop with Steve to look at different boards and sails which was really interesting. We then had lunch at the best pie shop ever! (in Longreef)!!! Tuesday night was Hugh's last night so it was a really fun drunken night with not a lot of sleep.
Wednesday was out last day out on the water. There was not much wind, so we spent the morning out on the beach & the energetic people went surfing. The afternoon was fun, we all took out small kit to practice our freestyle moves. I had a great afternoon and finally managed to nail two boomerangs which was so cool! It was weird packing up the kit that afternoon as we knew that it was the end. I will miss windsurfing at Balmoral.
Balmoral Beach
Wednesday night was our last Karaoke at the Steyne. It was a fun night but quite sad as so many people were about to leave.
Thursday was out de-brief, we watched a really fun windsurf DVD of our time in OZ which was a real laugh. We then all headed down to Shelly Beach for an afternoon BBQ to say goodbye. It was really sad saying goodbye. But it was a great end to an amazing five weeks.
I have had such an amazing time here. I have learned so much about windsurfing. I have met such great bunch of people who I will definitely stay in touch with. The whole experience has been life changing. I have had the time of my life and can't believe that I am about to leave OZ.
Great bunch of people
Thank you so much Flying Fish for changing my life. It's been amazing and the best thing I could have done. If anyone had told me this time last year that I would be in Oz just finishing my windsurfing instructor's course and about to work in Greece, I would have just laughed! It's amazing what can change in a year.
