Cork Week 2008: Take a small sleepy fishing village. Add water (the Atlantic ocean) and old-fashioned Irish charm. Stir in seven bars, three restaurants, 50 bands, 400 performers and 180 hours of entertainment. Bake in warm sunshine for one week every two years ....
This is the recipe for success at Cork Week regatta - held from July 12 to 18. The 5,000 or so competitors come from as far away as the US, Hong Kong, Australia, France and Germany and with another 50,000 spectators, Cork lives up to its billing as the number one fun regatta.
This is a regatta which is run by sailors for sailors. Cork Week is Ireland’s biggest sailing event since its inception in 1978. The successful format includes great competitive racing held on six different courses and an incredible social scene to cater for all tastes.
The race courses include the Harbour Race which is sailed around Cork Harbour - for some this is the highlight of the week. All other courses are sailed outside the mouth of Cork Harbour where the scenery is spectacular.
The Flying Fish Cork Week Race Campaign includes a liveaboard training weekend at Cowes in June and five days of intensive racing practice on location at Crosshaven immediately before the regatta. We're racing our Beneteau 40.7 Distinctions, chosen for their combination of speed and strength, and the competitive nature of the class fleet.
The competition is fierce, the craic is mighty, and the racing is top class .....
