Sail training in the Solent and in Sydney Harbour. The practical course from Flying Fish is a five day liveaboard programme, also available over three weekends. You join the boat in Cowes or Middle Harbour Yacht Club to meet your RYA instructor and the rest of the crew for the course: a maximum of five students.
RYA Day Skipper Practical is for sailors who have already taken part in the RYA Competent Crew and Shorebased Theory courses, or have equivalent sailing experience. We don't confirm the itinerary until the weather is known but in the UK you can expect to go to several interesting Solent ports, visiting Cowes, Yarmouth and Lymington; in Australia you can expect to visit several beautiful spots along the coast of New South Wales close to Sydney. These may include Pittwater, Port Stevens, Broughton Islands or Jervis Bay.
We also offer RYA Day Skipper training over a series of three weekends. You don't have to book them all at once but there is a discount on the price if you do.
During your course you will improve your knowledge of navigation, seamanship, boat handling and crew management, giving you the technical knowledge and confidence to act as skipper of a small sailing yacht by day in familiar waters. Day Skipper is often the minimum required qualification for ‘Bareboat yacht charter’ around the world.
