A triumphant week for Fish Skippers, Gary Christie and Andy Hunt as they battled it out over a series of nine races in the Celtic Sea - respectively taking 4th and 8th place in class.
"It was a great week" enthused Hunt. "There were tenths of seconds between boats over the line. It was so close, brilliant racing. Very well organised too, with five different courses clearly marked out on the water - and we were given waterproof race instructions!"
Christie and his crew on Beneteau 40.7, Hot Stuff, spent most of the week enjoying the illustrious position of 3rd place in class. They got pipped at the post in the final race, putting them in 4th place overall. "It's been awesome." said Christie. "Third place would have been unbelievable, but I'm very happy with fourth against such excellent sailors."
Cowes based Peter Newlands took first place on his Beneteau 40.7, Anticipation. He also produced the best score across the entire 410-strong entry list with a perfect nine straight wins record.
Hot Stuff and Anticipation are familiar adversaries this year, as they've been racing against each other in the Tuesday night race series, organised by the Island Sailng Club in Cowes.
Christie takes Team Fish up against Newlands again in a couple of weeks for the Skandia Cowes Week regatta. The battle of the Beneteau 40.7s continues ......
Congratulations to the crew of Hot Stuff : Gary Christie, Marcus Squires, Jane Woodlock, David Shove, Paul Kingston, Charles Evans, Jack Field, Emily Trembath, Kate Beharrell and Diana Stewart and to Andy Hunt and the Cheeki Rafiki crew.
It's been a good year for Flying Fish racing. Having already taken 3rd place in the Sydney Hobart and 4th place at Cork Week, the crews are under a bit of pressure next month to bring home trophies in Australia's Hamilton Island Regatta and in Skandia Cowes Week here in the Solent.
Both these race events are fully booked as is our Sydney Hobart campaign but we still have a couple of crew places for the Sydney warm water Pittwater & Coffs Harbour Offshore Race >> in December.
