Yachtmaster Basic Traineeship - a 12 week training adventure from just £5,380
In the European summerwe run these courses in the UK. Places to train in the UK course are just GBP 5,380 if you don't need our accommodation, or GBP 7,330 including waterside shorebased accommodation in Cowes.
The training is eligible for UK Armed Forces resettlement funding for service leavers, and approved for Enhanced Learning Credits.
Periods of learning ashore at Sydney's Middle Harbour Yacht Clubalternate with time spent living and on board a Flying Fish sailing yacht.
Practical trainingincludes: Sail trimming / Boat handling under sail and power / Passage planning / Navigation and pilotage / Passage making and watch keeping / Safety and emergency drills
The theory syllabuscovers: Passage planning / Yacht and crew preparation / Navigation and chartwork / GPS and electronic aids / Meteorology / Tidal heights and streams/ Vessel stability / Safety equipment and procedures / Collision Regulations (IRPCS)
You practiseyour skills in Sydney Harbour, Australia's favourite yachting playground, cruising past the Opera House and under the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Offshoreyou explore the New South Wales coast, heading south following the route of the Sydney Hobart race or north towards Pittwater and Port Stephens. Weather conditions vary from warm nor'-easterly sea breezes to strong, cool southerly busters. This is offshore sailing at its best. You will experience magnificent seascapes, dolphins, maybe whales and, of course, flying fish.After 10 weeks of training you will have enjoyed travel, training, teamwork and adventure. You can now expect to be fully confident taking charge of a sailing yacht and its crew in coastal waters.
The final two weeksof the course are devoted to intensive preparation for the Yachtmaster Offshore or Yachtmaster Coastal exam. You recap all the essential skills before meeting your examiner for a final assessment of your abilities in command.
