Working in the superyacht industry

However, it is also a profession which requires hard work and dedication.

Superyachts are typically very luxurious vessels, owned by high net worth individuals who will expect the highest level of customer care, presentation and professionalism at all times. They also tend to have little expense spared on them, making them exciting places to work.

What will working in the superyacht industry be like?

The superyacht industry affords many opportunities for those dedicated to the profession.

With excellent pay and a good amount of holiday allowance, you will find the perks of the job do not begin and end with the travel aspect.

However, those embarking on Yachtmaster courses >> should be mindful that working on superyachts is not a life of endless sunshine and glamour. While working on such vessels holds undisputable rewards, it also requires much hard work.

The hours you work can be long - and will require you to maintain professionalism and a polite, helpful attitude to all guests at all times.

Working on a superyacht, you will be away from home for long periods at a time - something which you need to be prepared for before you choose to join the profession.

Meanwhile, you will also be living in small quarters, which is something else to consider when thinking about superyacht careers.

Do I need qualifications to work in the superyacht industry?

o work in the superyacht industry, you need a variety of qualifications. At Flying Fish, we offer a range of Yachtmaster courses accredited by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA), the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and Yachting Australia.

Fire FightingYou will need a RYA Yachtmaster ticket and STCW95 Basic Safety Training >> prior to employment on a superyacht. These qualifications illustrate your commitment to the profession, as well as ensuring you have the necessary skills.

With Flying Fish, you can take these qualifications in Cowes in the UK, or travel to Sydney Harbour in Australia. Intensive learning experiences, these courses offer exciting opportunities to travel as well as learn. 

What can I do once I've completed my Yachtmaster training?
