Work as a windsurf or dinghy sailing instructor

work experience.jpgThere is great demand for qualified instructors, with job opportunities all over the world for windsurfers and dinghy sailors with a licence to teach.

The lifestyle is unbeatable although entry-level jobs are not too highly paid. On the plus side, you work in the sunshine and have plenty of time to improve your own skills and enjoy your favourite sport. This is the life.

You need professional qualifications to join this world and that's where Flying Fish comes in. Most companies prefer staff who are multi-qualified and experienced, so we recommend our dual sport Traineeships as the most reliable route into the industry. If you combine windsurfing with surfing or dinghy sailing you are destined for the best jobs in the industry.

If you are focused on windsurfing or dinghy sailing only, you should look at our single sport Traineeships for beginners and intermediates, or choose a Fast-track if you have plenty of experience already.

Your gameplan for work as a windsurf or dinghy sailing instructor
After you qualify with Flying Fish, whether in Greece or Australia, we recommend a first season's work with a Mediterranean employer. Work in the Med starts in April, which is perfect timing if you have trained in Sydney between September and March.

Before you start training, prepare a CV/resume with the qualifications you expect to achieve. Apply for jobs advertised on this site and start networking as soon as you begin your course. There are usually more jobs than applicants so there is no excuse not to get hired!
CV/resume information from Flying Fish >>

Major employers are looking for staff right through the European summer. They staff up for the peak season in July and August, then they need to replace early-leavers in September and October: ideal, whenever your Flying Fish course finishes.

What will you earn?
You should expect to earn a weekly wage of no more than GBP 100 / AUD 200 / USD 200 in your first job in Europe. But - living expenses are minimal, your accommodation is provided and in many places you get meals as well. If you start work in Australia you should be paid AUD 20 an hour. With more experience and promotion the rate goes up, of course. A Senior Instructor at an established UK training centre can expect a salary of GBP 18,000.

The next step
After a season in the Med you’ll want to spread your wings. The Med season runs to October or November, when the time is right to head off for winter in the Caribbean or Middle East, or maybe down to Australia for an endless summer.

There are windsurf schools, sailing clubs and training centres in fabulous places all over the world. Many of them advertise jobs here at flyingfishonline.com. If you have trained with Flying Fish and done a first season's work with a big company you will be well placed for a good job in a high wind centre.
