Hannah joined Flying Fish in Australia for a sailing adventure as part of her gap year before university.
Hannah explains: I started sailing at the age of 10 days (yes, days!) but with no certificate to show for it I chose to go on a Flying Fish yachting course.
Four months travelling
After training with Flying Fish in Sydney, I spent the next four months of my gap year travelling in Queensland, New Zealand, Fiji, the Cook Islands and Tahiti.
In the back of my mind I knew that I probably ought to go to uni and get a degree, even if I did want to spend the rest of my life sailing. So I went on to study maths at Exeter back home in the UK.
I enjoyed it immensly but spent most of my time sailing (and socialising) for the uni sailing team. We fleet raced, team raced, match raced and even yacht raced ...
Working in the UK
Out of term time I attempted to keep up with all the student debt by working in the UK for Lymington Yacht Charters, where I helped maintain a large Jeanneau fleet and acted as crew/hostess for corporate events.
