What better way to kick start your Gap Year with our Yachtmaster Offshore course takes you from novice sailor to competent skipper and the RYA Yachtmaster. The innovative programme provides an exhilarating mix of training as well as a great Australian sailing adventure.
Flying Fish have been running Yachtmaster training courses in Australia for over 20 years and we believe we have the right experience and skills to deliver fantastic training run by professional instructors who are passionate about their sport.
During the course, your time is divided between live-aboard passages and shore-based day sailing or theory classes. Weekends are usually free but customers are encouraged to go yacht racing with yacht owners at Middle Harbour Yacht Club or join a Flying Fish weekend course as mate to one of our qualified yacht instructors to build experience.
The course is designed for novice sailors or with limited experience looking to gain practical experience working towards the RYA Yachtmaster offshore certificate of competence.
The RYA Yachtmaster offshore certificate allows the holder to skipper a yacht up to 24m in length up to 150 miles from a safe haven. If you add STCW Basic Safety training, then the certificate is valid on yachts over 24 meters and up to 200 gross tonnes.
The course is run from our base at Middle Harbour Yacht Club, Sydney. You will get to sail on Sydney Harbour – Australia’s favourite yachting playground – cruising past the Opera House and under the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. Offshore, you explore the New South Wales coast.
We have a great fleet of yacht, dinghies and RIBs for you to train on when inshore and offshore. We guarantee that you will have an amazing adventure down under and come away with a qualification you can use for life.
You will find the Flying Fish crew apartments in Manly, a stunning location right in the heart of the Northern Beaches and a stone’s throw from the centre of Sydney. The apartments are comfortably furnished and are only a short walk from the bars, restaurants and supermarkets in the centre of Manly.
