COVID-19: Extention to STCW update/refresher training

The travel and social distancing rules around COVID-19 means that seafarers who are onboard or on leave find they are unable to update their STCW Basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and Personal Survival certificates.

The MCA has written a contingency plan for those who find themselves unable to update.

By completing the following steps the MCA will issue with a letter basically extending the validity of your certificates. If your certificates are about to expire then should send an email to deck@mcga.gov.uk including the following documents:

  1. A company letter confirming the vessel they need to join and the date they are required.
  2. Scanned copies of your original STCW certificates that require updating and are no longer valid.
  3. Print and complete the self-declaration forms for the STCW certificates that require updating/refreshing from MSN 1865 Annex B, C, D, and E depending on your CoC and duties onboard.
