The Dinghy Instructor Fast-track is a four week training programme designed for confident, intermediate sailors who have good boat handling ability and are looking to gain their Dinghy Instructors qualification.
To gain the RYA instructor qualification you need to demonstrate competence on the water having good communication skills, an understanding of the training scheme, in-depth theory knowledge, group management ability, safety awareness and an effective coaching style.

Sydney, Australia where you will train on the beautiful Sydney Harbour on performance dinghies in at our base in Middle Harbour.
A typical training day in Australia
You start at 07:00 with a morning Surf before breakfast in one of the many cafe’s on Manly beach. You are picked up at 09:00, with training beginning at 10:00 at our base at Middle Harbour. You train for 5 days a week. Evenings and weekends are free, Sydney is a fantastic city and with so much to see and do you are spoilt for choice. Choose Manly with its busy bars and restaurants or hopping on a ferry to explore Sydney and all it has to offer.

Pre-requisite experience and qualifications
- You will need to be a confident sailor, competent to RYA level 2 standard.
- You need to be 18 years of age.
- All students are required to secure travel insurance for the duration of their course.
- Before the final week of your course you will need to join the RYA
- The main pre-course requirement is a desire to be on the water!
Week 1 and 2
You start off with personal tuition working on your skills and practicing new ones aiming towards the advanced dinghy modules. RYA Powerboat level two plus rescue training to familiarise yourself with techniques used in high wind training centres. RYA first aid course. Video coaching techniques, sail away trips, racing and coaching skills and high wind blasting on performance dinghies
Weeks 3 – Instructor preparation week
RYA safety and fun course. Learning and teaching styles, Demonstration skills (learn the power of demo) Pre-Instructor course questionnaire sessions, practice presentations, how to give feedback. Close quarter sailing skills and boat handling, rudderless sailing and final coaching session before pre assessment
Week 4 – Dinghy Instructors course
Pre-assessment. An RYA Dinghy Coach/assessor will evaluate your skills and teaching techniques in preparation for the Instructors course. The following four days is your Dinghy Instructors course allowing you the opportunity to showcase your sailing ability and teaching style ashore and afloat.
