Instructor Development is a two-week post-qualification work experience with an RYA Centre in Greece. Designed for graduates who have completed a Water Sports Instructor Course or Fast-Track Course with Flying Fish. The programme combines teaching practice with personal skills training to gain experience as an Instructor. Our aim is to help you to achieve your best as a Windsurfing or Dinghy Sailing Instructor.
For Instructors looking for work experience
We will place you in an RYA training centre where you will practice what you have learnt so far. A Flying Fish expert is on hand for advice and assistance throughout. You will get to experience all aspects of life at a busy Water Sports Centre from rigging sails, teaching, coaching, rescue cover and at the same time improve your personal skills.
You will have further experience in rescue boat techniques to build your confidence in this vital part of an Instructor’s job. At the end of the two weeks, you will have gained some valuable work experience on your CV, as well as some great contacts who will help you to find that dream job!
A big part of being an Instructor is customer service and there is no better way of understanding what good customer service is about than working for a Water Sports Club to see how the experts do it.

You will receive a debrief at the end of the first week with Flying Fish and the training centre Senior Instructor. Your second week’s work experience will be based on feedback from your Instructors.
Week 2 – Work Experience/skills training
The second week will will give you the option to continue with your work experience at the same or a different RYA training centre based on feedback from week 1. You will focus on developing your performance on the water as an Instructor.
You now have some valuable work experience on your CV and the confidence to walk into a real paid job with around 32 teaching hours under your belt towards the 50 hours required for the RYA Intermediate Instructors Course.
We would recommend supplementing your training with the following courses to further boost your CV and increase your chances of employment.
