The Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor course (Upgrade) is a two-week programme for experienced RYA Start Windsurfing instructors who are looking to improve personal sailing and teaching skills. The Intermediate Instructor’s ticket will be awarded Planing or Non-Planing. Your result depends on your ability to perform and instruct Planing techniques.
The Intermediate Instructor course is run at our high wind windsurfing centre at Club Vass. Being a busy centre, you will see instructors of all levels running practical and land based training sessions. The standard of windsurfing is very high and you will be able to see how these experienced instructors run their courses.
At Flying Fish, we are blessed with fantastic conditions and warm water so, you will find that you pick up the more advanced skills quickly. We can offer you all of the latest boards and sails, rigged up end ready to go. From sitting on the beach, you can be on the water in a matter of minutes!
All of our windsurfing instructor courses are run at Club Vass in the world famous Vassiliki Bay. The bay is famous for its sailing conditions and offers light winds and flat sea in the morning, which is ideal for Intermediate Instructor training skills. In the afternoon, the cross-shore winds kick in around 3pm – this is where you will practice high wind sailing techniques.
If you are an early riser, you will be able to join guided mountain bike rides, fitness sessions or take a morning swim in the beautiful clear waters of Vassiliki Bay. At the end of a training day, there will be time to unwind and take time out for some personal windsurfing.
Vassiliki is a busy town full of bars and restaurants and in the evening, the nightlife kicks in! You will find friendly, like-minded people enjoying a cool beer and chatting about the day’s activities.

The goal is to improve your personal sailing and prepare you for the Intermediate Instructor course.
The Intermediate Instructor course is 4 days long and no moderation is required. Candidates are continually assessed during the course on their personal sailing ability.
You will be asked to demonstrate your ability to deliver Intermediate teaching methods using the RYA’s Fast forward scheme, and show your powerboat rescue techniques in light and windy conditions.
The Trainer will assess your presentation techniques and theory knowledge to the required standard. You will also demonstrate how to use the simulator to best effect.
At the end of the 4-day course, your trainer will issue you with an Intermediate Instructor’s ticket, planing or non-planing and if you have met the required criteria.
