Overview

The Windsurf Instructor Fast-Track is an all inclusive, four-week instructor programme, designed for confident windsurfers who can use a harness in strong winds.

The Selling Point

All Flying Fish Windsurfing takes place at Club Vasiliki in Greece, one of the best Windsurfing locations in Europe.  We aim for maximum time on the warm blue waters using the brand new equipment. Our instructors are highly qualified, with countless seasons working in stunning locations around the world.  This fast track course contains all the necessary pre-requisites to become an RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor as well as a serious focus on your personal ability aiming to push you to the advanced levels.  During the course we will focus on good communication skills, an understanding of RYA training methods, in-depth theory knowledge, group management, safety awareness and an effective coaching style. Flying Fish training ensures you enter your final assessment confident and expecting to pass.

A typical training day in Greece:

We start at 08:00 with optional fitness training twice a week such as mountain biking, SUP, Circuits, Swimming or yoga. Normal skills training starts 10:00am everyday. There will be 3 hours of tuition before lunch then the same in the afternoon rounding up with a debrief at 17:00. The equipment is available to use after sessions and in your own time.  You train six days a week in Greece, with Saturdays off to enjoy Vasiliki and the stunning Island of Lefkada. Life off the water is just as exciting as life on, when the sun goes down Vasiliki comes alive, with great dining and socialising in town. The Club Vass and Wildwind BBQ’s and entertainment shows are not to be missed!

Pre-requisite experience and qualifications

  • You will need to be a confident windsurfer, competent at using a harness in strong winds.
  • You need to be 18 Years of age (if you are 17 you we require a Parent or Guardian in Resort)
  • Before the final week of your course you will need to join the RYA
  • The main pre-course requirement is a just a desire to be on the water

Full itinerary

Our schedule has you training 6 days a week between 10am and 5pm. In the morning you have the opportunity to join guided mountain bike rides, Stand up Paddle boarding (SUP), go for a swim or relax in the club before training begins each day.  After 5pm you have unlimited access to the equipment until the sun goes down!

We fly you to Greece, check you into our accommodation, the Fish House, introduce you to the lovely town of Vasiliki and allow you to settle in before training begins the following day.

Weeks 1 and 2: Skills Development 

  • Personal sailing tuition working towards RYA advanced modules
  • RYA Powerboat level 2 and Rescue Training
  • RYA First Aid training with scenarios
  • Windsurfing Instructor skill development
  •  Video Coaching
  • High Wind Blasting
  • Sail away trips
  • Optional Fitness sessions

Week 3: Instructor Preparation Week 

  • RYA Safe and Fun Course
  • Close quarters board handling and demo Skills
  • Learning styles and coaching techniques
  • More High Wind Blasting and Video coaching
  • Practice Presentations and questionnaires and feedback

Week 4: Instructor Assessment Week 

Start Instructor assessment week, you will be given the opportunity to deliver practical sessions with feedback. After this week, you will be competent delivering all components of the RYA teaching syllabus.


Related courses

We recommend all Flying Fish graduates to join our Instructor Development programme, two weeks of organised work experience with a Watersports Centre in Vasiliki.
