The Yachtmaster Coastal Course is the first of three Yachtmaster Training Courses delivered by Flying Fish, all designed to take a novice sailor through a structured training programme leading to an RYA Yachtmaster qualification. The Yachtmaster Coastal Course is for crew or skippers who want to venture out of sheltered waters and explore further afield.
Spend 8-weeks in the warm waters of Sydney, Australia. You start out with Dinghy Sailing which builds the fundamental sailing skills required on all yachts. The Yachtmaster Coastal Course is divided between practical skills training, coastal passages and shore-based theory classes. Weekends are usually free so customers have the time to enjoy Sydney, relax on the beach or get involved with local yacht racing.
The course is designed for novice sailors and anybody with minimal experience who would like to recap the basic skills before moving through the syllabus. The course includes all the skills, sea miles required for the Yachtmaster Coastal exam.
Already have some sailing experience?
All Flying Fish Yachtmaster Training Courses are modular by design, this means they can be tailored to suit individual needs. If you already have some sailing experience then please contact us.
Why train in Sydney?
Sailing on Sydney Harbour is a huge draw for sailors looking to learn a new skill. Sydney is famous for its warm winds and beautiful clear water, so most of your sailing will be in shorts and t-shirts. You can explore the beautiful New South Wales coast with all of its stunning harbours and anchorages. We guarantee you will love sailing in Australia.
Our base in Middle Harbour Yacht Club, with its white sandy beach and great atmosphere, is where you start your day whether its skills training in Sydney Harbour or about to set off on a coastal passage. Being part of Flying Fish provides temporary membership to the Yacht Club, offering customers the chance to join evening and weekend yacht races. The Aussies love their yacht racing with the most famous race being the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Through our contacts, customers will meet local sailors and yacht owners and are invited to join weekend races.
On your weekends off Sydney and the Northern beaches have a lot to offer. Surfing is a national past time and Manly Beach is of the best surf beaches on the North Shore. Manly is full of bars, restaurants and cafes and it’s fair to say that everybody loves the beach and the cosmopolitan lifestyle.
We have a great fleet of yacht, dinghies, and RIBs for you to train on when inshore and offshore. We guarantee that you will have an amazing adventure down under and come away with a qualification you can use for life.
Flying Fish can provide accommodation in one of our crew houses, located in the heart of Manly. The accommodation is a stone throw from the beach and 15 minutes by road from the training centre at Middle Harbour Yacht Club. The accommodation is self-catering and a popular choice for customers who want to stay on the beach! For more details on our accommodation in Manly then click here.
