When you book a course or event with Flying Fish,  we collect and process personal information, including:

  • Date of Birth
  • Address
  • Contact details
  • Email address
  • You and your next of kin’s address
  • Any medical conditions that may affect your training

If you have signed up for our Seafarers Tax Service, we will collect and process personal information, including:

  • Travel dates
  • Salary details
  • Personal information regarding your tax status
  • National insurance details

How we get personal information, and why we have it

The personal information we process is provided to us directly by you, via our registration form for the following reason:

  • As part of the booking process, i.e. online application form

We also receive personal information indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:

  • You may fill in a form on our website

We use the information that you have given us in order to:

  • Deliver the training programmes and comply with regulations laid down by our governing bodies.
  • Your personal information (full name, DOB) is added to qualifications issued to you by Flying Fish or our external training partners.

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are: We have a legitimate interest.

How we store your personal information

  • Your information is securely stored on our CRM, HubSpot.
  • For customers who complete an STCW course, we keep your name, contact details, and Date of Birth until your 70th birthday of the certificate holder or five years from the date of issue of the certificate, whichever is longer.

We may share the information with:

Personal information is shared with our external training providers (Fire Safe Training, Bembridge Powerboat Training) for operational and safety reasons

Flying Fish is obliged to share your name, address and email address with one of our governing boddies, the RYA.

Your Choices and Rights

You have certain rights concerning your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. Your right to restriction of processing, Your right to object to processing, Your right to data portability. You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
