Overview

Our Dinghy Instructor Fast-Track Course is a four-week programme for confident Dinghy sailors looking for an all inclusive route to RYA Dinghy Instructor.

To join our Dinghy Fast-Track course you will have sailed different types of dinghy being capable of sailing a Dinghy without an instructor onboard in light and moderate conditions. You would hold the RYA Level 3 certificate or have equivalent Level 3 sailing skills

If you have not sailed for a while or would like to refresh all those basic sailing skills then please consider our Dinghy Instructors course. This comprehensive course takes you from beginner to Dinghy Instructor in six-weeks

Why Flying Fish

Our mission is to create the ultimate Dinghy instructors courses run by seasoned professionals in the best locations. All Flying Fish Dinghy Instructor courses are based at Club Vass and Wildwind in Vassiliki, Greece one of the best water sports locations in Europe.

With such fantastic conditions, you will find that you improve quickly and start to feel comfortable in performance dinghies. Customers are welcome to join our fitness classes or sign up for guided mountain biking rides, stand up paddle boarding sessions.

It is not uncommon for Flying Fish graduates, who have such and amazing time choose not to come home, instead spend the season in Greece working for one of the holiday companies who provide water sports holidays in the beautiful Greek Islands.

Night life in Vassiliki

Life off the water is just as exciting, when the sun goes down,Vassiliki comes alive! The Club Vass and Wildwind BBQs entertainment shows are legendary. The whole of Vassiliki is in holiday mode during the summer months and with so many bars and ‘tavernas’ to choose from, you are guaranteed to have fantastic nights out with like-minded people.

Our instructors are all professional windsurfers and Dinghy instructors. They are very experienced and passionate about their sport.

Flights and Accommodation

Flying Fish will organise you flights, transfers to resort and accommodation. If you choose to say with us we will accommodate you in the famous Fish House,  (where all the Fish stay) introduce you to the lovely town of Vassiliki and allow you to settle in before training begins the following day.

A Typical Training Day in Greece

You start at 07:00 with fitness training (optional and only in Vassiliki). This can be either swimming, mountain biking or yoga. Your training day starts after breakfast at 10:00. There will be 3 hours of tuition before lunch then the same in the afternoon rounding up with a debrief at approximately 17:00. You train six days a week in Greece, with Saturdays free to enjoy time on the beach. The social scene comes alive in the evenings with live music and Barbecues along the beach, as well as fantastic restaurants and bars in Vassiliki town for some nights out to remember!

Instructor Development

For anybody who is looking to work as a Watersports Instructor after your Flying Fish course in Greece, then we strongly recommend you join our Instructor Development programme.  Two weeks of organised work experience with a Watersports Centre in Vassiliki, boosting your CV and giving you the best chance possible of getting a job straight away.

Pre-requisite experience and qualifications

  • You will need to be a confident sailor, competent to RYA level 3 standard. Please click here to learn more about RYA Level 3 sailing skills
  • You need to be 18 years of age (if you are 17 we require a parent or guardian in resort).
  • Before the final week of your course you will need to join the RYA.
  • The main pre-course requirement is a desire to be on the water!

Full itinerary

Week 1 and 2 : Instructor Skill Development

You start off with personal tuition, building on your practical skills and practicing new ones, ticking off thoes advanced RYA dinghy modules. RYA Powerboat Level 2 plus rescue training to familiarise yourself with techniques used in high wind training centres. RYA First Aid Course, video coaching techniques, sail away trips, racing and coaching skills and high wind blasting on performance dinghies.

Weeks 3 : Instructor Preparation Week

RYA Safety and Fun Course. Learning and teaching styles, demonstration skills (learn the power of demo), Pre-Instructor course questionnaire sessions, practice presentations and how to give feedback. Close quarter sailing skills and boat handling, rudderless sailing and final coaching session before pre-course assessment.

Week 4 : Dinghy Instructor Course

Pre-assessment. An RYA Dinghy Coach/Assessor will evaluate your skills and teaching techniques in preparation for the Instructors Course. The following four days is your Dinghy Instructors Course allowing you the opportunity to showcase your sailing ability and teaching style ashore and afloat.

We recommend all Flying Fish graduates to join our Instructor Development programme, two weeks of organised work experience with a Watersports Centre in Vassiliki, to further boost your CV and increase your employability.

If you are NOT confident sailing to RYA Level 3 standard you may want to consider the Dinghy Instructors Course in Greece.
