The Dinghy Instructor Fast-track is a four week training programme designed for confident, intermediate sailors who have good boat handling ability and are looking to gain their Dinghy Instructors qualification
To gain the RYA instructor qualification you need to demonstrate competence on the water having good communication skills, an understanding of the training scheme, in-depth theory knowledge, group management ability, safety awareness and an effective coaching style.
All Flying Fish Dinghy Instructor courses are based at Club Vass and Wildwind in Vasiliki – Greece arguably one of the best water sports location in Europe. With such fantastic conditions, you will improve quickly and find yourself feeling comfortable in performance dinghies.
We fly you to Greece, check you into our accommodation, the Fish House, introduce you to the lovely town of Vasiliki and allow you to settle in before training begins the following day.
Life off the water is just as exciting as life on. When the sun goes down Vasiliki then comes alive: the Club Vass and Wildwind BBQs and entertainment shows are legendary. The whole of Vasiliki is in holiday mode during the summer months and with so many bars and tavernas to choose from you will have a fantastic night out with like-minded people.
Our instructors are all professional windsurfers and Dinghy instructors, very experienced, and passionate about their sport.
Customers have such a fantastic time that many don’t come home, instead spend the season in Greece Windsurfing or working as an instructor for one of the holiday companies who provide Watersports holidays in the beautiful Greek Islands.
A typical training day in Greece
You start at 07:00 with fitness training (optional and only in Vassiliki). This can be either swimming, Mountain biking or yoga. Your training day starts after breakfast at 10:00am. There will be 3 hours of tuition before lunch then the same in the afternoon rounding up with a debrief at approximately 17:00. You train six-days a week in Greece, with Sundays free to enjoy time on the beach. There is plenty of activity in the evenings with live entertainment or relax at Club Vass or enjoy one of the many Tavernas in Vassiliki town.
For anybody who is looking to work as a Water sports instructor after completing your Flying Fish course in Greece, then we strongly recommend you join our Instructor Development programme, two weeks of organised work experience with a Watersports Centre in Vassiliki.

Pre-requisite experience and qualifications
Fast-track is designed for confident intermediate sailors. Your theory knowledge should include a basic understanding of weather, tides, how a sail works, the rules of the road. If you have less experience, they you may like to consider Dinghy Instructor course. You must be 18 years of age to train with Flying Fish. If you are 17 years of age, you are able to join the course under parental supervision. Please note that you need to complete the online RYA “Safe and Fun” course before you take your instructor assessment. As an instructor you are required to be an RYA member.
Week 1 and 2
You start off with personal tuition working on your skills and practicing new ones aiming towards the advanced dinghy modules. RYA Powerboat level two plus rescue training to familiarise yourself with techniques used in high wind training centres. RYA first aid course. Video coaching techniques, sail away trips, racing and coaching skills and high wind blasting on performance dinghies
Weeks 3 – Instructor preparation week
RYA safety and fun course. Learning and teaching styles, Demonstration skills (learn the power of demo) Pre-Instructor course questionnaire sessions, practice presentations, how to give feedback. Close quarter sailing skills and boat handling, rudderless sailing and final coaching session before pre assessment
Week 4 – Dinghy Instructors course
Pre-assessment. An RYA Dinghy Coach/assessor will evaluate your skills and teaching techniques in preparation for the Instructors course. The following four days is your Dinghy Instructors course allowing you the opportunity to showcase your sailing ability and teaching style ashore and afloat.
