Managing Director | UK
Andy started sailing and windsurfing at an early age. Andy became a Mechanical Engineer before moving into the water sports industry, qualifying as a Windsurfing Instructor in 1994. Andy qualified as a RYA Yachtmaster in 1997, worked in the Mediterranean before joining Flying Fish in 2000 as a Yachtmaster Instructor spending six happy years down under running Yachtmaster training programmes. Andy became a RYA Yachtmaster Examiner and lives in Cowes where Flying Fish HQ is based. Andy is a keen windsurfer and sailor and has competed in many of the worlds offshore races. You will find Andy Teaching on our Superyacht Crew training Program Cowes.

Laura has worked for Flying Fish for 17 years, so if you have ever called our office then you would have probably spoken to Laura. Laura has excellent product knowledge, she has worked at our training locations in Greece and Australia so has a very good idea of what to expect. Laura also heads up our operations team so has an active role in UK training activities. Laura says, “I have seen many people achieve their goals over the last 17 years, from managing watersports centres to running large Superyachts.” She adds, “the best part of my job is when I hear a customer lands their first job!”
Operations Manager | Greece
Adam (aka Chubsey) began his watersports career at a young age and has worked in many locations in Europe, the Caribbean and Australia. When Adam isn’t working his summers heading up our Greece courses, he has spent winters working for Richard Branson on his private island in the Caribbean, and most recently he spent winter in Australia working at Flying Fish’s training location in Sydney. Adam organises all watersports training in Greece for Flying Fish, a perfect job for somebody who loves windsurfing. Adam holds his Yachtmaster Offshore and his Advanced Windsurfing Insturctor and RYA examiner. Find out whats special about our training in Vassiliki Greece.
Watersports Instructor/Trainer | Greece
Jake began his watersports career on a small lake at the age of 16. Since then his profession has allowed him to work all over the world. Jake is big into Windsurfing, Dinghy sailing and Surfing, and likes his fitness – he has no problem leading fitness sessions as part of the Flying Fish watersports courses. With a wide range of experience in instructor training, Jake has returned to the top gun centre that is Flying Fish Greece for his 3rd season. He has lots of knowledge and experience and is passionate about helping people into the industry. “I have been lucky enough to work all over the world in some fantastic places! This industry opens a lot of doors for people and can lead them down paths they never knew existed, giving them amazing experiences along the way. Watersports Instructor | Greece
Prim is the newest member of the Flying Fish team with this being her first summer teaching on the Flying Fish windsurfing instructors course. Prim has always had a love for the outdoors and the ocean; growing up around boats on the coast of Scotland. When she was 16 Prim started working at a local reservoir and fell in love with teaching. She then trained with Flying Fish in Australia to become a Windsurfing Instructor and has worked in Greece teaching both Windsurfing and Powerboating ever since. “My love for windsurfing has continued to grow along with my passion for teaching and I am very excited to be in Vass this summer.” She adds, “I can’t wait to be a part of the Flying Fish team!”
Operations Coordinator | UK
Laura has worked for Flying Fish since 2017 and deals with the operations behind all of our Superyacht courses. She has an extensive background in English studies so she’s always on hand to proofread CVs. Laura spends a lot of time on social media so she now heads up the social media marketing for our UK base on the Isle of Wight. Laura has a passion for health and fitness so in her spare time you’ll find her at the gym.
Sales Adviser | UK
Colette works in the sales department in our Cowes office on the Isle of Wight. Colette has a passion for travel and has recently returned after a year of travelling the world. Colette has spent some time backpacking around Australia but has also seen a lot of Asia including Cambodia, Japan and Vietnam amongst others. By experiencing many fantastic adventures, Colette is so pleased when our students embark on their life-changing adventures around the world.
George Scuby Kyriakos
Diving Instructor Trainer | Greece
George has been diving for over 30 years in a range of locations including Egypt, Cuba and Mexico, as well as his home country of Greece. He is an experienced, passionate Instructor and always has a joke and a smile. He has trained many Flying Fish Divemasters and has often employed them to work in his two Dive Centres afterwards.
Reception Manager | Greece
Rachel has lived in Vassiliki for many years; working at Club Vass before joining Nautilus Diving Club. Rachel controls the bookings and the office, meets and greets the
divers and is always available for a chat! She has mentored many Flying Fish divers over the years and is known as the Flying Fish Agony Aunt. Rach loves Caramac chocolate, which you can’t get in Greece… hint hint!
Recruitment Consultant | UK
Lisa got into sailing at a young age through her grandfather who owned his own sailing boat. Both Lisa’s brother and Uncle are captains, her eldest son is a lead deckhand and her nephew is a 1st mate. Lisa began her career working for a company providing Radar, Dome and AV equipment to yachts, then moved on-board and became a Stewardess, working her way up through the ranks on various yachts. Lisa left this life to start a family, however, she is still in the industry, working for YPI where she recruits for Captains and OOWs. Lisa comments, “I have been lucky enough to be involved in yachting from all sides, it’s a wonderful way forward if you have the opportunity and I believe that if you really want it, it’s here for you”. Heidi has been working for Flying Fish since 2000. She has been working in the marine industry since 1981 when she first started at Avon Inflatables Limited in the accounts department. Heidi did take a short break in her career to start a family and raise her two children, but soon returned to accounts, working one day a week for Flying Fish! In her spare time Heidi loves to take care of her three ponies with her husband and daughter. Heidi is extremely friendly so if you ever pop up to our office she’d be happy to have a chat!
STCW Instructor | UK
Mark joined Flying Fish in 2017 to deliver the STCW training for students looking to work on-board Superyachts. He brings with him over 40 years of experience in the UK’s Blue Light Emergency Public Services and with the oil and gas industry in the Middle East where Mark provided emergency response leadership and training, both on and offshore. Mark has a great deal of knowledge and skills relevant to the industry as he is also an RYA Advanced Powerboat, PWC and First Aid Instructor. He also holds his Power and Sail Coastal Skipper qualifications, all commercially endorsed. Mark has served as a Inshore Lifeboat Helmsman and Lifeboat Training Officer and is currently a Community First Responder with the Ambulance Service. Mark has a wife and two children, and gets out on the water as much as he can.

Superyacht Stewardess Instructor | UK
Simona has worked in the superyacht industry for over 7 years. It was her dream come true, travelling around the world, meeting and making great friends and seeing some amazing places. During her career she has encountered every possible issue that arises as professional crew on a superyacht. During her time on superyachts Simona has circumnavigated the globe. Simona left the industry to have a family and now teaches others how to start a successful career on a Superyacht. We are proud to have her working in our team.

Rick started boating as a teenager in the Sea Scouts back in the 1970s and purchased his first Powerboat in 1990 and Personal Watercraft in 1995. Rick became a Powerboat and PWC Instructor in 2004, obtaining his commercial endorsement in 2009 and became an Advanced Powerboat Instructor in 2010. Rick has delivered training and worked for several local clubs and businesses and delivered boats as far as the Mediterranean by sea. He is very handy to have around Flying Fish because he has also been repairing and maintaining boats and PWCs for years. Rick loves being on the water and is extremely passionate when it comes to passing on his skills and knowledge onto our students.

Angus has been involved in sailing and boating for over thirty years. Starting in sailing dinghies and small powerboats, his experience encompasses many types of power and sailing vessels throughout Europe. Angus started Powerboat training in 2001 and has since been clocking up in excess of 2000 training, skippering and delivery hours per year covering over 15,000 sea miles annually. Angus has a calm and sociable personality that puts students at ease and instils confidence as they learn.
PDSD Instructor | UK
Jim is Flying Fish’s heavily experienced PDSD Instructor who started out in the Royal Marines at 17 years old and becoming a qualified Sniper 1st Class and, after four years, was accepted for the Special Boat Squadron winter selection course. He then went on to serve 19 years within the UK Special Forces and retired from active service within the Royal Marines in 1998, attaining the position of Squadron Sergeant Major as a Warrent Officer within the Special Boat Service. Following this, Jim became a Military Adviser within the Special Armed Forces advising on all security and training aspects of tactical amphibious operators. He then spent a period instructing on global security threats and control measures as a Senior Maritime Security Consultant. Jim went on to become the Founder and Director of Maritime Protective Services. Jim is patient and has some amazing stories to tell each and everyone of our students.
Food Hygiene Instructor | UK
Michèle started working with Flying Fish in 2010 to deliver the accredited Food Safety courses. She has much experience within the Superyacht industry and tailors her courses to make each one industry specific. Michèle is a lady of many skills, being a Chef Trainer and Assessor, Cookery Writer, Nutritionist and Food Safety Consultant so she’s always great to have on hand when we want some quick nutrition advise in the office. Michèle comments, “I am passionate about enabling students to understand the need for this vital qualification”.
First Aid Instructor | UK
Sarah joined Flying Fish in 2009 but has been a First Aid trainer since 2004 when she begun teaching the subject to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. Since then she has spent a number of years teaching First Aid to children under 11 years old and has been part of a team that went into high schools to highlight the importance of road safety and the consequences of road traffic collisions. Sarah joined the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service in 2000 and qualified as a Paramedic in 2007, spending most of her career as a solo responder in a rapid response vehicle. Sarah has always had a keen interest in teaching. In 2014 she gained a level 5 teaching qualification – Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector – because she wanted to enhance her teaching skills even further. Sarah says, “I’m passionate about teaching First Aid because a few simple skills and the willingness to use those skills can save a life.” Sarah now works in Health and Safety at the Isle of Wight hospital teaching manual handling to all levels of staff.
First Aid Instructor | UK
Tim joined Flying Fish in 2013 as a First Aid Instructor with the growing demand of students. Tim has worked as a Paramedic since 1997, working throughout the Isle of Wight, Hampshire and Queensland in Australia. He worked as part of the Air Ambulance crew for four years as well as joining the crew of Cowes Inshore Lifeboat, working his way up to Coxswain on the Isle of Wight. Tim enjoys working with so many students to help them fulfil their goals and travel the world on-board vessels. “It’s a big world out there, go explore!”
PWC Instructor | UK
Rob is both a Powerboat and PWC instructor and has been teaching for seven years. Within that time he has spent 12 months travelling the Pacific and Indian Oceans on container ships. Rob can also teach both VHF and Radar courses but much prefers to be out on the water. Rob is looking to complete his OOW Unlimited this year.

Sue is a PWC Instructor for Flying Fish, a recent addition to our courses. She also helps Flying Fish as an extra Powerboat Instructor from time to time. Sue grew up on the Solent both sailing and water-skiing. With both of these watersports came powerboats and jet skis which gave Sue a great passion for the industry. After a number of years living in South Africa, Sue came back to the Isle of Wight as a skipper, running charter boats and instructing RYA courses. Sue has been teaching for many years and enjoys passing her knowledge along to our students to take with them on their adventures.
Managing Director | Owner Flying Fish Sailing Academy | Australia
Andy began his working life as an oceanographer, in an attempt to find a career path that would get him out on the water. He soon decided this wasn’t enough fun and he gave it up to work as a sailing and windsurfing instructor in the UK. Shortly afterwards he met Andrew Lorant and they started to develop the Flying Fish concept of vocational sports training in the world’s best locations. The first trip was to Barbados, to run a windsurfing instructor course. Today he oversees Flying Fish Sailing Acadmy. Andy has a lifetime of experience as a water sports trainer and many thousands of miles logged sailing offshore. He still spends plenty of time each year out on the water, training instructors or skippering yachts. His favourite sports are windsurfing, surfing and offshore racing. “But,” he says, “any time I spend working on the water is a privilege and definitely good for the soul.”
Operations Director | Australia
After 10 years in the London design industry, Russell decided to take a career break. He says “I decided to trade the material comforts of mainstream life for the opportunity to acquire skills that would stay with me for life.” So, Russell joined Flying Fish to do a windsurf instructor traineeship in Vassiliki, Greece. He then spent time as an instructor in Greece and Spain before returning to Flying Fish to work as an Instructor Trainer. Several years on Russell is Operations Director for Flying Fish Australia. He spends most of his year managing windsurfing, surfing and dinghy sailing in Sydney, where he takes an active part in training instructors. He is an RYA Windsurfing Trainer and Advanced Instructor, Dinghy Coach Assessor and Senior Instructor and a Power Boat Instructor. Occasionally he can be found in the role of Yacht Instructor in Sydney Harbour. With the arrival of the Australian winter in May, Russell heads for Europe to join the Fish staff in Greece.

Laura has been working at Flying Fish for four years and teaches Powerboat Level 1 in Australia. Laura handles both the marketing and sales for Flying Fish Australia but her true passion is being on the water. She particularly enjoys twilight racing and coastal trips up to Hamilton Island each year with the Hamilton Island race week being the highlight of the year for her. Laura loves to dinghy sail and will go out paddle boarding every lunch to get out of the office and above all else, Laura loves to surf!
