Cowes, Isle of Wight – Flying Fish Tax, the dedicated UK tax service for seafarers, has rolled out a new online account designed to take the friction out of tax returns for crew working all over the world.

Built specifically for superyacht crew, cruise staff, commercial crew and offshore oil and gas workers, the new account helps qualifying seafarers claim 100% tax relief on foreign earnings via the Seafarers’ Earnings Deduction (SED), without losing precious time to admin.

The tax service from Flying Fish has grown steadily through word of mouth by keeping things straightforward. The new account experience was built on what was already known: less time deciphering tax jargon, fewer back and fourths over email and total certainty that everything is handled correctly.

Life on board is hectic enough without having to worry about tax and spreadsheets when you finally get ashore, so we built this tool to simplify the whole process” says Andy Hunt, Owner of Flying Fish. “Fiona Rayner (MAAT), our seafarer accountant, is still heading up our tax team, but this new tool cuts out the paper-chasing and SED calculations so she can spend more time giving our customers more direct, personal support.”

How the new account works

  • Work in stages: Log in online to upload your income and travel dates, track return progress, or save progress to finish later.
  • Built for life at sea: The account messages via WhatsApp and email, ideal when phone signal is patchy or non-existent at sea.
  • Plain English: Clear, step-by-step prompts replace confusing HMRC jargon so you always know what’s needed next.
  • Every year in one place: The account stores old tax years, so you can see it all together.

Pricing

The pricing of the tax service has not changed, which costs £250 per tax year, renewing automatically each 6th April.
