Overview
Our Yachtmaster Mile Builder course provides the opportunity to log sea miles and qualifying passages in preparation for assessment for the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate. You will take part in a series of extended passages by day and night, operating a watch system on board.
Course programme
These extended passages are a good opportunity to build up experience sailing offshore under the watchful eye of a Flying Fish instructor. You will also get the chance to practice offshore navigation, safety drills and gain lots of helming experience.
This course is a great way to log miles towards your RYA Coastal or Yachtmaster exam.
Book the one-week course and you will sail 300 miles. On the two-week mile builder, you will sail 800 miles.
For extended offshore passages, you will sail on Arctos our 55′ Ocean going yacht.
Inclusions
- Accommodation with meals on the yacht.
- Tuition, all safety equipment.
- Wet weather clothing if needed.

Pre-requisite experience and qualifications
Your sailing and navigation skills should be at Day Skipper level or equivalent. No formal qualifications are required.
All students are required to secure travel insurance for the duration of their course.

The syllabus over the week or two-week period includes:
- Preparation for sea.
- Safety equipment and procedures.
- Pilotage and passage planning.
- Offshore navigation.
- Preparing for heavy weather.
- Sail trim.
- Man overboard procedures.
- Watch keeping/night passages.
- Crew management and the role of the skipper.
- Skipper experience.
